• The starting point for vintage rug patterns is the traditional hand-woven rugs from regions with a deep-rooted carpet-making history, such as Anatolia, Iran, and the Caucasus.

• Over time, these rugs have acquired a sense of history, faded colors, and slightly worn textures.

• Since the 2000s, demand for these old rugs has increased, and they have regained popularity under the name "vintage."

• Many manufacturers have started to transform old rugs into "vintage" rugs by shaving, washing, and re-dying them.

2. Pattern Characteristics

• Traditional motifs (e.g., rose, carnation, star, tree of life, geometric motifs).

• Pastel tones created by the natural dyes fading over time.

• There is usually a symmetrical pattern arrangement, but asymmetrical designs can also be seen in some modern vintage rugs.

• The color palette mostly includes earth tones, faded reds, blue-grey, light green, and cream colors.

3. Modern Vintage Rugs

• Nowadays, vintage rugs designed by machine-production with a distressed effect are quite common.

• Vintage patterns are frequently preferred for rugs made with digital printing technology (e.g., digitally printed rugs with dot backing).

• They are highly preferred because they can harmonize with both traditional and modern home decor.
